Driving & Safety Tips
- The only cars permitted on Fraser Island are 4WD’s.
- Vehicle permits are required for all vehicles on Fraser Island. Permits can be obtained from various locations, more details on this website.
- Tyre pressures should be set at appropriate levels before driving on the beach and the inland tracks.
- The beaches on Fraser are highways with speed limits of 80km/h and the inland tracks have a speed limit of 35km/h.
- Normal road rules apply on sand tracks and beaches.
- It is important to carry a recovery strap, long handle spade, first aid kit, a tyre gauge, air pump, and your vehicle permits.
- It is strongly recommended that you travel within 2 hours either side of the low tide so you are more likely to be able to drive on hard sand below the high tide mark.
